RATIONALE
Inspired by traditional Chinese Feng Shui principles of balance and the flow of life force (or chi), this stool uses bent metal as an exploration of suspension in time, contrasted to evoke a sense of calm through visual and material equilibrium as a material enters and exits a state of redox. Metal functions to work together with both the warm cherry wood and brown cowhide to showcase the interconnectivity of these elements, bringing a new sense of place and balance. Through careful consideration of form, proportion, and weight creates a piece that feels both grounded and light. The project also explores upholstery manufacturing, integrating textile elements with wood and metal to bridge contrasting materials. Together, these components form a cohesive object that reflects harmony through balance.
