RATIONALE

An exploration of discovery and place shaped by my design journey. Akari, roughly translated as “light” in Japanese, through different kanji placements, symbolizes a guiding light in life. Crafted from wood and washi paper, this lamp emphasizes both material sustainability and cultural resonance. Offering a warm, reflective presence within its space. As an emerging designer finding place within design, I shaped this piece using layered wood panelling, defined by sharp angular lines balanced with exaggerated curvature, allowing light to filter through intentional gaps. Each panel acts as a pathway or doorway into a new experience, symbolizing the ongoing process of exploration and growth as a young and emerging designer.
